3-on-3 Hockey Rules & Regulations

Game Rules

  1. Game Length: Games are 10 minutes long with a running clock.

  2. Non-Contact: All games are non-contact to ensure player safety.

  3. Penalties: Minor penalties result in a penalty shot. Major penalties may lead to player ejection and a penalty shot.

  4. Line Changes: Players must switch on a one-for-one basis. Leaving the bench early results in a warning, then a penalty.

  5. Icing and Offside: Icing calls are not enforced and there are no offsides.

  6. Pass Before Scoring: A goal must be preceded by a pass from a teammate. Goals scored without a pass will not count.

  7. No Slap Shots: Slap shots are not allowed. Players must use wrist shots or snap shots.

  8. Goalie Play: Goalies have 10 seconds to move the puck after gaining possession. Holding longer may result in a delay of game penalty.

  9. Mercy Rule: If the score difference is four or more goals, the trailing team can add an extra player until the difference is reduced.

General Regulations

  1. Equipment: Full hockey equipment is mandatory for all players, including neck guards. Cages are mandatory for all U18 players.

  2. Age and Insurance: Players must be 16+ and already registered with a team or LTP program.

  3. Roster: Ensure all players are registered and on the team roster before the first game.

  4. Conduct: Zero tolerance for aggressive behaviour from players, coaches, or spectators.

  5. Tournament Format: Round-robin followed by playoffs. Top 4 teams progress to semi-finals and top 2 to final.
